A Day In My Life: Email From U.S.A

We've got new mail from our epals in Nobleboro, Maine, U. S. A. describing a typical day in their lives and telling us more about their interest, activities they enjoy, and many more. It's really a great way to get to know you from across the world. We'll write back soon.

Are You Sleeping?

Is your child getting enough sleep? Children aged 5 --> 12 need about 10- 11 hours of sleep. Getting enough sleep will help children get up on time and be ready for a full day of learning. Lack of sleep can make it difficult for students to concentrate in school and can even cause problems working and playing with friends.

Here are some tips that can help monitor your child's sleep:

• Explain to your child the importance of sleep and not to see as kind of punishment.
  

• Set a regular bedtime routine and stick to it.

• Make bedtime a special time. Read him/ her a story.
  

• Avoid big meals and caffeine less than 6 hours before bedtime.

• Set the bedroom temperature so that it's comfortable- not too warm and not too cold.

• Make sure the bedroom is quiet and dark- and without TV.

Sleeping is no less important than food, drink, or safety in our children's lives.

Building A Snowman Without Snow: Craig, Co, USA

Winter is a time for many fun activities with snow. One of the snow adventures is to make a snowman. The traditional way is to head outdoors and pack the snow, but our friends at Sunset Elementary School in Craig Colorado, USA , have built their own snowmen without any snow!
Mrs. Cheryl Arnett, what a fun winter activity! This is the sweetest project I have seen in a long time...Those snowmen are adorable... and your video is very fun to watch!

My Favorite Place To Visit

Lebanon cities are among the famous names in ancient history, such as Baalbak, Tripoli, Sidon, Tyre, and Jbeil. Ruins are still standing proud to show the greatness of the people who lived in Lebanon.
We have learned about our beloved country through different class activities. We began by brainstorming different important cities and marked them on the map. It was so interesting to use the internet to locate Lebanon on the world map. Each one of us chose a city we would like to research and did a project about our favorite places to visit and presented them to class.

Our Makassed has always been known for keeping a guarding eye of the gifted students and their special endeavors. This time it was the turn of our brilliant student Mohammad Darwiche to be appreciated by praise and a laptop presented to him by Dr. Kamel Dallal, the director of educational affairs. This present was chosen by Miss Adla Chatila, the director of IT and finance departments.

We thank them both for taking care of our "young clovers". We also congratulate Mohammad for winning the Copenhagen Climate Speech Contest...We wish you all the best, all the time!

We are involved in a collaborative project with Bal Bharati Public School in India. Here is a power point presentation in which children describe their city through beautiful art work.

What makes a gift the best you ever had? There are many gifts which are given to us, but some gifts are so different...they give us the feeling of being special! Second graders at East Elementary School in Colorado, USA, made a very cute video about the best gift they ever received.

My Favorite Place To Visit Project: Makassed Al- Marj School, Bekaa

After our first visit to Makassed Al- Marj School in Bekaa on National Tree Day, we feel privileged to be able to share a new project about our favorite places to visit in our country along with Bal Bharati Public School in India. The pleasure of planting together hand- in- hand in Bekaa opens the door to making new Makassediyeen friends. Second graders shared their drawings and wrote about what makes these places special. We'll also share our activity with you next week followed with discussion and a class survey about the most beautiful wonders and cities in Lebanon.

National Tree Day In Bekaa

On National Tree Day, we visited Azhar El- Bekaa and Makassed Al- Marj School and planted the baby olive trees along with our new friends. They all promised us to take care of the trees...and with sunshine and good soil our trees will grow with us and will always tie us back to this beautiful land.

A Day At School: JNV Bhiwani, India

Islam Week: Bromstone Primary School, United Kingdom

We have participated in an interesting project about Islam with our friends at Bromstone Primary School in the United Kingdom. Our friends learned about the five pillars of Islam and created pop-up cards for us. We've sent them our activities on Eid Al-Adha celebration at school and they've shared this great video with us! I really can't describe this video in words!!!

Today we wrote our first letters to our epals on wiki. We have our photos and names and a page for each one of us with pals from Craig, Colorado; Henniker, New Hampshire; and Lusaka, Zambia . It's a great opportunity for us to interact and directly share information about where we live and our interests. We'll be sending letters by posting them on our pages every week. We can also edit and add pages with different topics to this wiki.
